Best Over-Ear Headphones

Over-ear headphones, unlike earbuds can completely surround the ears. They also allow for larger drivers, which deliver greater bass and a larger soundstage. A majority of them feature Bluetooth technology and active noise cancellation.

1. Sony WH-1000XM4 wireless head phones

Sony has improved on an already-great pair of headphones with the WH-1000XM4 Wireless. They are lighter, better built and feature an audio profile that is more balanced (though bass-heavy). They also come with an app that lets you customize the audio. Their active noise cancelling performs better than ever before, eliminating any background noise. Additionally, they have a longer continuous battery life than other models.

These Bt Headphones - Fueib.Org, are Bluetooth 5.0, with support for SBC, AAC, and Sony's own LDAC codec. The latter can transfer high-resolution music, though you'll need to use compatible devices and streaming services. The WH-1000XM4s is also able to connect two Bluetooth devices simultaneously and then automatically switch between them as required. This feature is accessible through the Sony Headphones Connect App and works flawlessly.

One subtle improvement over the XM3 is the sensibility of their touch panels. They respond quicker to a tap on the panel and are much easier to control when making calls or listening to music. Sony has also added a feature that can make voice calls more clear and precise during calls. This is an obvious and pleasant addition.

Although the WH-1000XM4s may not be perfect, they're one of the top wireless headphones we've ever tried. They are comfortable, well-made, and have batteries that last for more than 30 continuous hours. They can be used in a passive manner with a TRS cable. This is great for traveling or conserving energy.

The WH1000XM4s offer a better alternative to the Bowers & Wilkins Wireless Over-Ears Px7 S2. The Sonys are more comfortable and their ANC can block out more ambient noise. The B&Ws feature a more flexible EQ and a companion app to tweak the audio quality. But the B&Ws have a better-built design, and they can connect with two Bluetooth devices at once. In addition, they support aptX HD, and they have a unique AI-driven engine that is attempting to boost compressed music to high-resolution. This is called DSEE Extreme, and it improves the clarity of music when listening to lossless audio files.

2. Bose QuietComfort 45/QC45 Wireless

The $329 Bose QuietComfort45 sound cancelling headset is the most current version of a headset which has become a favorite among commuters and travelers all over the world. Instead of reinventing the wheel, the new model retains the same formula that made the predecessor so popular, adding USB-C, better noise cancellation and longer battery life.

Similar to the QC 35 II before them, these over-ear Bose headphones sport a luxurious look and feel that oozes quality. The headband is constructed of plastic, but is a solid feel, with hinges made of metal at pivot points and the familiar ratcheting action that you experience when you retract or extend the earcups. The cups have soft cushioned pads that fit securely over the ears and do not apply pressure on your head. They weigh 238 grams and are compact when folded. You can use them while wearing a sweater or coat as the noise cancellation function is functional even when you aren't on your head.

Despite their reputation for comfort, the QC45s don't offer the best sound in this price range. The frequencies are dull and lack the detail that higher-end headphones might be able to bring out. The upper registers are amplified which is fine for the majority of music but can be a problem for more delicate and intricate genres. The bass is decent, but lacks the punch.

The possibility of pauseing the playback when you remove the headset is a feature absent. This is a standard in this price bracket and is something that Bose's competitors have been offering for years. Another thing that was missing was the lack of an in-app EQ. Bose provides preset EQ settings in the app however it would be nice to have a manual control.

Bluetooth 5.0 is supported, including multipoint and more advanced codecs like aptX Adaptive. You can download the Bose Audio app to adjust your headset's audio and voice assistant settings.

The QC45s also come with four microphones built into the headset to hear your voice when you make calls. The headsets have a good call quality, however they don't allow you to silence the voice when playing back like other wireless headphones. Update In February 2022, a firmware upgrade to the QC45s provided an option to adjust the volume manually in the audio app which is a welcome improvement.

3. Focal Bathys Wireless

Focal is a French audio company that makes high-performance headphones. They are renowned for their style and comfort that let listeners know that they're hearing something unique. Their first venture into wireless headphones that block noise, the Bathys, are a stunning set of headphones that look and sound amazing. They come with a high-performance USB DAC built in, so you can use them both for wireless and wired listening.

Focal claims that the Bathys can play bluetooth headphones range music for up to 30 hours. We got more than 40 hours of playback time on average from a single charge. If you need to recharge, there's an indicator light on the right ear cup that turns red when the earphone needs to be charged.

They come with a wide range of features for a pair of headphones at this price, including support for multiple devices simultaneously and automatic pairing (though you'll have to select your source device each time you need to listen). The headphones have an inbuilt microphone that can be used with voice assistants such as Siri or Alexa. They also come with an easy-to-use interface, making it easy to control your music and take calls.

Bathys over-ear headphones perform well in our noise cancellation test, reducing ambient noise by an average of 9 decibels. It's not as impressive as the ANC in the Bose QuietComfort 45/QC45 Wireless, but it's still quite effective.

The Bathys headphones did well in our headphone bluetooth sound tests. Their frequency response was largely similar to the SoundGuys headphone curve with minor differences in the mids and bass. The Bathys are bassy sound profile that can make instruments, vocals and cymbals look a bit veiled.

They also have very good leakage resistance, meaning you can wear them out in public without worrying about people hearing your music. Their mic has passable recording quality through Bluetooth with just a little distortion in the mid to the treble range.

4. Sennheiser Momentum 4

The Sennheiser Momentum Wireless is a new update of the company's top Bluetooth headsets. The previous model, called the Momentum 3, was a decent but not a standout into the category. The latest model is improved over the previous model by having a sleeker design, improved gesture controls, and an enormous battery life.

A lot of the improvements here are subtle, but they add up to make a pair that feel like an upgrade to the previous model. The Momentum 4s are flat and don't fold however they do come with a nice hardshell case that protects them when on the move. They also follow the trend of many other recent Bluetooth headphones, such as the ones from Sony and Bowers & Wilkins, Bt Headphones to be completely device-independent. This means they work with both Android phones and Apple iPhones, but do not come with the extra features (like Find My support and head-tracked spatial audio) that you'll find on the AirPods.

The most obvious change here is the massive battery, which claims up to 60 hours of playback when the noise cancellation option enabled. This is more than the majority of the competitors can provide and enough for a trip of a lifetime without having to worry about finding an outlet to charge them up.

Engadget senior editor Billy Steele gave the headphones an 82-point score and cited their sound quality and ANC as their main strengths. The only thing he dislikes is that they lack a sense gravitas in the mids and the treble. This means that orchestral tracks tend to sound flat rather than grand. The bass is well-rounded but it can sound overemphasized, which can cause to fatigue when songs have strong bass lines, such as the drum hits in As I Lay Dying’s Forever. The cymbals also sound sizzled rather than full and there's no feeling of depth in the lows.
